The provincial grant applies first; the 30% federal ITC is calculated on the net cost after that grant.

Program breakdown

Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit

30% refundable
  • Refundable credit on eligible capital cost of standalone battery storage acquired and available for use before 2034 (reduced to 15% in 2034).
  • Equipment must qualify under CRA Class 43.1 / 43.2 — outdoor containerized LFP systems with a rated capacity above 10 kWh generally qualify.
  • The full 30% rate requires meeting prevailing wage and apprenticeship labour requirements; otherwise the rate drops to 20%.
  • Government assistance such as a provincial grant reduces the capital cost base, so the ITC is computed on the net amount.

Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance

100% year-one write-off
  • Class 43.2 property is eligible for immediate expensing of the full capital cost in the year it becomes available for use.
  • Combined with the ITC, this pulls the majority of the after-tax cost into year one and materially improves project IRR.
  • Applies to the depreciable base after the ITC reduction — your accountant coordinates the two.
